Masjid Quba is the first mosque built in Islam. When the Prophet ﷺ reached the outskirts of Madinah on the Hijra, he stayed at Quba and laid the foundation of this mosque with his companions. It lies a few kilometres south of Masjid an-Nabawi and is one of the easiest and most loved Ziyarat visits in Madinah.
Why visit Masjid Quba
The Prophet ﷺ used to visit Quba regularly, and it is reported that whoever purifies himself at home, then comes to Masjid Quba and prays there, receives a reward like that of an Umrah. Many pilgrims make wudu at their hotel and pray two rakats here as a result.
What to expect
- A large, bright white mosque with a spacious courtyard and well-kept surroundings.
- Separate prayer areas for men and women.
- A short visit — most people spend 30 to 45 minutes including prayer.
Visiting tips
- Go after Fajr or in the cooler evening hours; midday summer heat is strong and the mosque gets busy.
- Dress modestly and make wudu before you leave your hotel.
- Opening hours and entry rules can change, so follow the signs and staff instructions on the day.
