Mount Uhud rises to the north of Madinah and is where the Battle of Uhud took place in the third year after the Hijra. It is one of the most visited Ziyarat places in Madinah, both for its history and because the Prophet ﷺ spoke of his love for this mountain.
The Battle of Uhud
The Muslims faced the army of Quraysh at the foot of Uhud. The Prophet ﷺ placed a group of archers on a small hill to protect the army from behind; when some left their position the battle turned. Seventy companions were martyred, among them the Prophet’s uncle Hamza ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him).
